Two new Tree Desings, and new baby nad a new home....

So much has happened since I last blogged, seems I have been in the bad habit of not writing. So as my newborn (well 9 week old) slumbers peacefully beside me I can fill you in on some exciting Raimbow Tree news.
I have been busy making lots of new headbands to liven up the the shop, fill wholesale accounts and create stock for summer festivals. I have two new tree designs: one is a tree with a full head of leaves called "Forest Nymph" it is made from organic and local farm wool. I purchased the wool from Etsy seller Gaiaconceptions, she lives about an hour away from my new home in North Carolina. The wool is soft, lofty and a nice lighter weight summer yarn that felted like a dream. For the first band in this design I choose to use shades of green with a subtle hint of brown.
I must really be into green lately because my second new design is all greens. Made from Abby's (folktale.etsy.com) fabulous organic merino-cross wool. The tree design was previously released late last year, but I always leave room for change when I create new designs.

As far as myself and my family go we are happily living in our new home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of north Carolina. I think we have adjusted nicely to the climate, coming from Alaska which was below zero the day we left. Having grown up in Homer, Alaska and living there 20 years of my life (this is excluding my college in Oly, WA) I have to say I miss it but am not heart broke. I miss most I think the people we left behind, the most amazing friends from the Saturday Farmer's Market, good neighbors and of corse my buddies from high school. Perhaps I will find myself surrounded by the beautiful snow capped mountains of Homer again someday! Until then I will be doin a little dance here in the South.

I make hats and scarves to!

Hi ya folks!!! I am writing a blog entry (shocking ehh??) I have just been in the talkin kind of mood today, and I am here to talk about my newest creations which will delight your senses I'm sure. I don't just make headbands folks (although I'll admit I am damn fine at it). I also have the keen ability to create hats and scarves without patterns, which is really the only way to go for me at least. Now that the leaves have turned, it has frosted, snowed and then all rained away, and is getting ready to perhaps snow again... I have feeling a little more and more inspired to crochet toasty hats (even some vegan ones) scarves and fingerless gloves (also coming soon some extra chunky felted mittens *she chuckles with delight*).
I have a lot of hair, thus inspiring me to make so many headbands instead of hats. but as I mentioned above my keen sense of crochet has blossomed somewhat in the last year or so, allowing me to create any hat I could imagine (even ones that suit big hair) just by picking up a ball of Gorgeous hand spun yarn (only the best of course) and my trusty crochet hook (whom I love and hold dear to me, we are like the ultimate buds (except for my husband and son of course (and my rabbit & cat I suppose).
Now here is what I have been imagining.... warm, soft, colorful, big and slouchy, whimsical and luxurious. And here is what I created for Raimbow Tree's fall and winter line of hats.......

And last but not least my Fave-rave so far......

And these are my new scarf designs (BIG thanks to my gorgeous friends Hannah and Halo for helping me with the pictures).

Almost all of these items are still in my Etsy Shop (as I just listed them today) http://www.raimbowtree.etsy.com
check out the listings for more detailed descriptions of the entire piece and the beautiful yarns I used.

It has been awhile

This is my first blog entry in a long time, a couple months. A lot has happened that has kept me busy and distant from my internet life. Back in may when I started to feel sick and tired all day long, when most foods started making me feel extra nauseous, and when I wanted a hamburger after so many years of being a vegetarian, my husband and I knew that our child number two was in the making. My morning sickness was not nearly as tragic as my first pregnancy, but it did keep me from cooking, cleaning, and even doing a whole lot of crafting. So my friends my hopes to up my summer stock before the busy market started all crashed and burned. I ended up only being able to fill Etsy orders, occasionally make a few new items for my shop and order enough yarn from my favorite spinners knittydirtygirl.etsy.com and folktale.etsy.com to have supplies for summer.

The first market day was June 14th and I had 7 headbands, it was a sad sight....two big empty-looking tables. The morning sickness started fading (after 9 looooong weeks) and now I am in tip-top shape to create new and wonderful things for people to wear! I have been able to stock my market booth with over 25 gorgeous headbands every week including my 'Ultra Warm and Cozy' headbands which have been selling really well considering that it is summer. Also many clothing items, beautiful raw silk purses, and crochet fingerless gloves. Luck has been on my side these days... I am feeling much better, the sun is shining after two months of rain and clouds and I am growing a new and exciting baby in my belly for my family to love and enjoy.

Unfortunately I have not been able to stock my Etsy shop due to every headband I've made going straight to my market booth, I am however taking custom orders at this time, custom orders are always my favorite anyway... So drop me a line and let me create the headband of your dreams!

On Front Page!!

Because Rachel Marie (knittydirtygirl.com) is such a doll I made front page of Etsy this evening and it is something for me to write about and celebrate. I made this cute patchwork purse last week from some fabric stash I just couldn't part with, I especially love the whimsy bunny-gnome print in the middle of the purse.. so cute and so odd ;)
Here are some pictures of the treasury, which is a very splendid collection of patchwork odds and ends. Rachel you did and amazing job and thanks for sending me pictures!!

Closet of Dresses

Here friends take a look at some of the dresses I made for an art project I'm working on for paper-making and print class I've been taking the last few months....

I made this paper out of thai kozo fiber (also know as rice paper) I pulled the sheets and them stretched them around some little wire dresses I wrapped myself out of copper and copper coated wire. I made little hangers for all my dresses (there are about 10-15 in total) and they are all going to hang in a small wooden closet that My husband built for me. This art piece is going to be in an art opening in Ptarmigan Art Gallery from April 18-May 1st. I am sort of excited about it, and I had sooooo much fun making and sewing all these tiny dresses! Kozo paper is such an amazing medium! it is strong, flexable and so gorgeous!!!!
